Elise Goosen is a fiber artist from Florida whose work delves into the intricate connections between history, gender, and the natural environment. By blending long-standing textile traditions with contemporary techniques, her work explores the evolving narratives embedded in material culture. While weaving is her primary medium, Elise often incorporates surface design methods and embellishments, creating textured and tactile works. She primarily uses natural colors, which reflect her engagement with the natural world. Her practice explores the dual nature of textiles as utilitarian objects and storytelling vessels, asking viewers to see pieces of history in the present. After graduation, she will be pursuing a master's degree in museum studies at the University of Florida. She plans to work in the museum field as a collections manager, ensuring the artwork she loves will be cared for and accessible to the public for years to come.
